Markey is the only cancer center in the state designated by NCI as a comprehensive cancer center. The clinical programs and cancer services at Markey are fully integrated with the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. Here, cancer specialists work closely with the hospital to provide excellent cancer care and support services, and they also conduct advanced expertise in clinical research.

Chandler’s Hospital provides services for the diagnosis and treatment of lung and mesothelioma cancers, clinical and pathology laboratories, intensive care, surgery rooms and related radiation therapy services.

Markey is one of the few cancer centers in the US that provides multidisciplinary care through clinical care and research teams.

The Markey Cancer Center has been organized into four research programs: Cancer Cell Biology and Signalization; Cancer Prevention and Control, Drug Discovery, Delivery and Transnational Therapeutics and Redox Injury and Repair. The MM also has eight affiliated hospitals and four in the past two years, and now KY is partnering with Norton Healthcare in Louisville.

One of the most important benefits of this cancer center’s care is its commitment to developing new therapies to fight cancer. This is done with new clinical studies. Each program is voluntary and new cancer treatments are available free of charge to cancer patients.

Since this center is defined by NCI, it can provide many new clinical studies for cancer patients. For this reason, patients can benefit from many new drugs, technologies and treatments that are not available elsewhere in the United States.

If you participate in a clinical trial at Markey, you will probably not be able to benefit from a revolutionary cancer treatment. You can also help doctors and scientists take the next steps to treat many deadly cancers and find new ways to prevent it. You will also get the best care and help others discover new or better cancer treatments.

The research has shown that many cancers do not create a genetic risk associated with the descent of a family; However, it should not be forgotten that the risk of cancer in families may be high. If you feel that your family is at risk of inherited cancer, you can take advantage of a unique program called Markey’s Clinical Genetic Counseling Program.

MM also participates in the Kentucky Clinical Research Network, which is allied with doctors, to conduct clinical trials to prevent and treat many forms of lung cancer.
